Un nuovo "polittico" lucchese del IX secolo: il «breve de multis pensionibus»

Critical edition and analysis of a breve newly discovered in the Episcopal Archive of Lucca and closely linked to two well-known estate surveys of the bishopric, that follow the model of S. Colombano of Bobbio: the «inventarium episcopatus» and the «breve de feora». The so-called «breve de multis pensionibus» is a list of libelli granted by the bishop of Lucca Gherard I (870-895), carried out at the request of his successor: bishop Peter II (896-932). Peter appealed to a placitum held in Florence on 4 March 897 in his campaign to defend the rights and possession of his bishopric, presenting the names of individuals who held, according to «breve de multis pensionibus» and «breve de feora», the same lands simultaneously by libello and feo. The list, which contains lots of interesting information, including a record of servants granted by libello, allows a calculation of the percentage of conservation: the archive houses 38.7% of Gherard's cartulae ad censum perexolvendum
